2010 Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Program and Bayer Environmental Awards for Media Kicked-off a Joint Launch

Beijing, April 09, 2010——With the topic of “Building Low-carbon Society”, the 8th Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Program today kicked-off its Beijing station in Beijing Forestry University. The program will continue from April to November this year simultaneously in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Hangzhou, bringing the Assembly theme of environmental protection to college and university students across the nation. The 2010 Bayer Environmental Awards for Media will start at the same time. The programs will gather youngsters; promote awareness of environmental protection, and share domestic and abroad environmental protection resources and experiences through environmental protection proposal selection and eco-camps. By such initiatives, a team of environmental envoys were expected to grow up for the environment cause.

This year‘s Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Program welcomes college students from 18 to 23 years old.  Everyone interested in environmental protection or with experience of such activities can download the enrolment form from the website http://www.envir.gov.cn/info/bayer. The enrolment form for Bayer Environmental Award for Media can be downloaded from the website http://www.cfej.net/.

Bayer Young Environmental Envoy is one of the core programs in Youth Education and Environmental Protection Protocol jointly signed by Bayer and UNEP.  It creates an international communication platform with wide influence for youngsters from every corner of the world.  Every year, this environmental envoy group is enlarged by energetic youngsters from more than ten countries including Thailand, Korea, Singapore, India, Brazil, Venezuela and etc.  Since its entry to China in 2003, the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy program has been held in many cities including Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Tianjin, Hefei, Nanjing, Jinan, and Chongqing, and has selected 119 Young Environmental Envoys from more than 800 students from over 100 universities.

Recalling her experience of the event, 2009 Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Liu Jie Mei from East China Normal University who visited Bayer’ Headquarters in Leverkusen said, “’Bayer Young Environmental Envoy' is not just an honorary title, but also the high recognition of our contribution to the environmental protection and an encouragement that always reminds us to set an example in promoting environmental protection and pursuing constant innovation in practice. Although this seven- day-trip is quite short, it still helps broaden our environmental perspective. What's more, it was helped us setting more objective of environmental. In short, it's a rewarding visit. And what we have gained from this trip is beyond words, so Let us put this experience and knowledge into a powerful driving force for future environmental protection to welcome the new era of China's environmental protection cause."

The Bayer Environmental Award for Media is jointly promoted by Bayer and the China Forum of Environmental Journalist, with further help from the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy program, aiming at honouring outstanding young reporters in environmental protection.  The result of the Award will be announced together with the Bayer Youth Environment Envoy at the end of November. The two of them will join the trip to Bayer’s Headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany with the four Youth Environmental Envoys to learn more about environmental protection there.

2009, Bayer China announced the official launch of its “Seeding for Green” program to deepen its sustainable development strategy and foster a young generation of green forces in China. Bayer’s “Seeding for Green” program adopts diversified forms and aims at wide outreach. The program includes “International Children’s Painting Competition” and “Children’s Book on Global Warming” both designed to instill an awareness of environmental protection into children; New Green Generation Bases for Environmental Protection Education, “Bayer Young Environmental Envoy” program, “Green Generation: Environmental Education Center” and “China Green Camp for University Students” eyeing at strengthening students’ environmental knowledge and inspiring their ability to act; and the “Bayer Environmental Awards for Media” set out to promote the green concept in China.
